# Effector Layer

Place Effectors on a Timeline, overlap multiple effects, and control their activation over time using automatic linear Weight fades.

The **Effector Layer** is used to place and control Grid Studio Effectors directly on a Timeline.

Effectors can apply visual changes such as color or position effects to objects in Grid Studio.

The Effector Layer allows these Effectors to be activated for defined time ranges and combined directly inside a Timeline sequence.

***

## Adding Effectors

Create an Effector Layer and double-click inside its Timeline area.

A menu appears where the desired **Effector** can be selected.

<figure><img src="https://1761958297-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FDcGqBEYUYkl2mQzGbOue%2Fuploads%2Ft6CeE3Hk8p4OREnfWbbt%2FPowerToys_uax5StcJgK.gif?alt=media&amp;token=afcddd3c-dda1-46fe-a4fc-52a49eeffff1" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The selected Effector is then added as an Effector Item on the Timeline.

Multiple Effectors can be added to the same Layer.

They can also overlap in time, allowing several Effectors to be active simultaneously.

***

## Effector Items

Each Effector Item defines the time range during which the corresponding Effector is active.

The complete Item can be moved along the Timeline and its duration can be adjusted using its start and end handles.

For general information about moving, resizing, renaming, coloring, and deleting Timeline Items, see **Working with Layer Items**.

***

## Effector Weight

Timeline playback controls the **Weight** of the Effector.

Each Effector Item automatically contains Weight Keys that define its fade behavior.

The Weight controls how strongly the Effector is applied.

### Fade In and Fade Out

The Effector Item automatically provides a fade-in and fade-out through its Weight Keys.

These Keys can be moved along the Timeline to adjust when the Effector reaches its full Weight and when it begins fading out again.

<figure><img src="https://1761958297-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FDcGqBEYUYkl2mQzGbOue%2Fuploads%2F7xxLUQzE2th8MienQVZq%2FPowerToys_J1DUGnooQc.gif?alt=media&amp;token=e0d6e3fa-7521-4f16-a83c-2afefc59babb" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

This makes it possible to create softer transitions instead of switching an Effector on or off instantly.

The Weight interpolation is always **linear**.

Bezier curves or other interpolation modes are not available for Effector Weight Keys.

## Effector Documentation

The Effector Layer only controls **when** an Effector is active and how its Weight changes over time.

The configuration and behavior of the individual Effector types is not covered here.

For information about available Effectors and their settings, see the dedicated **Effectors** documentation.
