# Trigger Layer

Use the Trigger Layer to generate Timeline-based Workflow Events with Trigger and Timed Trigger items, or control 3D transforms over time using Motion Paths.

The **Trigger Layer** is used for time-based event generation and 3D motion control inside a Timeline.

It supports three different item types:

* **Trigger**
* **Timed Trigger**
* **Motion Path**

Trigger and Timed Trigger generate Workflow Events, while Motion Path directly manipulates the transform of a 3D object over time.

## Adding Items

Right-click inside the Trigger Layer and select the item type you want to add:

* **Trigger**
* **Timed Trigger**
* **Motion Path**

### Trigger

A **Trigger** represents a single point in time and fires a Workflow Event when the playing Timeline passes over its position.

{% endcontent-ref %}

### Timed Trigger

A **Timed Trigger** defines a time range and provides separate Workflow Events for entering, leaving, and seeking into that range.

For details about Started, Ended, Seek, and Block behavior, see:

{% endcontent-ref %}

### Motion Path

A **Motion Path** controls the transform of a 3D object over the duration of a Timeline Block.

It supports Spin, Spin To, Transform By, and Transform To modes.

For details about Targets, transforms, Block duration, and Progress Curves, see:

## Overlapping Items

Trigger Layer items can overlap in time.

**Trigger**, **Timed Trigger**, and **Motion Path** items can all be mixed and stacked inside the same Layer.

<figure><img src="https://1761958297-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FDcGqBEYUYkl2mQzGbOue%2Fuploads%2FwWlFr4PPr83At6Xqw7vW%2Fs7G2mNsZMd.gif?alt=media&amp;token=9dcc2afc-894c-473f-bbd4-1b9ee542ff7e" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

When multiple items overlap, they are displayed vertically within the Trigger Layer.

This allows multiple events and motions to occupy the same time range without requiring additional Trigger Layers.
