# Value Layer

Create and animate a single Float value over time using Keyframes and use the generated Value parameter throughout Grid Studio.

The **Value Layer** is used to create and animate a single numerical **Float value** over time.

It provides its own generated **Value parameter**, which can be used elsewhere in Grid Studio for parameter linking, Workflows, or other systems that require a time-controlled numerical value.

The editing workflow is similar to the **Curve Layer**, but intentionally simplified because the Value Layer always contains only a single value.

***

## Value Parameter

Select the Value Layer to access its generated **Value parameter** in the Inspector.

The current value is determined by the Keyframes and the current Playhead position.

The generated parameter can then be used elsewhere in Grid Studio for further programming or parameter linking.

***

## Value Blocks

Keyframes are stored inside **Value Blocks**.

Double-click inside the Timeline area of the Value Layer to create a new Block.

The Timeline controls the generated Value parameter while the Playhead is inside the Block.

Outside the Block, the Timeline no longer manipulates the Value parameter.

If the Playhead jumps or seeks directly into a Block, the Value is immediately updated to the value represented by the Curve at that Timeline position.

***

## Creating Keyframes

Double-click inside the Value Curve to create a new Keyframe at the clicked **time and value**.

The Keyframes define how the generated Float value changes throughout the Block.

***

## Selecting and Editing Keyframes

Click a Keyframe to select it.

Multiple Keys can also be selected by dragging a **selection rectangle** around them.

A selected Keyframe can be moved directly in the editor using drag and drop.

When a single Keyframe is selected, its exact:

* **Time**
* **Value**

can also be edited in the Inspector.

### Moving Multiple Keyframes

When multiple Keys are selected, dragging one of them moves the entire selection together.

The relative timing and value differences between the selected Keys are preserved.

***

## Duplicating Keyframes

Select one or multiple Keyframes and press:

**CTRL + D**

The duplicated Keys are created at the same positions as the originals and can then be moved to a new position.

***

## Deleting Keyframes

Select one or multiple Keyframes and press:

**DEL**

to remove them.

***

## Curve Interpolation

The Value Layer uses the same Curve-based Keyframe editing workflow as the Curve Layer.

Keyframes can be used to create linear, held, or shaped transitions between numerical values.

For more advanced Curve editing behavior and detailed Bezier manipulation, see **Curve Layer**.
