# Timeline Actions & Events

Control Timeline playback, navigation, recording, looping, and Playhead position from Workflows, and react to Timeline playback and recording Events.

Timelines expose their own **Actions** and **Events** for use in Grid Studio **Workflows / Node Editor**.

Actions can be used to control a Timeline from workflow logic, while Events allow a Timeline to trigger other logic when its playback or recording state changes.

***

## Timeline Events

Timeline Events can be used as starting points for workflow logic.

### Recording Started

**Recording Started** is triggered when Timeline recording begins.

### Recording Stopped

**Recording Stopped** is triggered when Timeline recording ends.

### Start Playing

**Start Playing** is triggered whenever the Timeline enters the playing state.

This also includes resuming playback after the Timeline has been paused.

### Reach End

**Reach End** is triggered when the Playhead reaches the configured **End Time** of the Timeline.

### Looped

**Looped** is triggered when **Loop** is enabled and the Timeline reaches its End Time and jumps back to its **Start Time**.

## Timeline Actions

Timeline Actions allow a Workflow to control Timeline playback, navigation, recording, and timing.

### Play

Starts Timeline playback from the current Playhead position.

If the Timeline was paused, playback continues from the paused position.

### Pause

Pauses the Timeline at its current Playhead position.

Playback can later continue from the same position.

### Stop

Stops Timeline playback and resets the Playhead to the configured **Start Time**.

### Toggle Play

Toggles the Timeline playback state between playing and paused.

### Next Cue

Moves the Playhead to the next Cue on the Timeline.

Only the Cue position is used. The function of the destination Cue itself is not executed.

### Prev Cue

Moves the Playhead to the previous Cue on the Timeline.

Only the Cue position is used. The function of the destination Cue itself is not executed.

### Start Record

Starts Timeline recording.

### Stop Record

Stops Timeline recording.

### Loop Timeline

Sets the Timeline's **Loop** option on or off.

The action accepts a boolean value which directly controls the Timeline's Loop setting.

### Set Current Time

Sets the Timeline to a specific absolute time.

This directly changes the current Playhead position.

### Jog Time

Moves the current Timeline time relatively by the supplied value.

Unlike **Set Current Time**, which sets an absolute position, Jog Time moves forward or backward relative to the current Playhead position.

This is useful for continuous Timeline navigation from controls such as a **Joystick** or **Slider**.

For example, Jog Time can be executed repeatedly from a Tick or Update workflow to continuously scrub the Timeline forward or backward.
