# Arm Objects for Recording

Select the Parameter Layer used as the recording target, arm one or multiple objects, and verify exactly which objects will be included in the next Take.

Once the Timeline, recording timebase, and recording source are prepared, select which objects should actually be included in the next Take.

Grid Studio allows multiple objects to be armed for recording at the same time.

***

## Select the Recording Target Layer

Before arming objects, make sure the correct **Parameter Layer** is selected as the recording target.

The red **R** in the Parameter Layer header identifies the Layer that will receive:

* new object recordings
* manually created Parameter Keys

Only one Parameter Layer can be selected as the recording target at a time.

The red **R** only defines where new recording data will be written.

It does not enable or disable playback of existing Keyframes on other Parameter Layers.

## Arm an Object

Select the object that should be recorded.

In the header of its Inspector, enable the round **Recording** control.

<div align="left"><figure><img src="https://1761958297-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FDcGqBEYUYkl2mQzGbOue%2Fuploads%2FmX6YvClT7dSBiJzcgaeI%2FPowerToys_EHk3aNvkeZ.gif?alt=media&amp;token=7d332128-09bb-4660-90e3-0c8206464256" alt="" width="407"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

When enabled, the indicator turns red.

The object is now prepared for the next Timeline recording.

Repeat this for every object that should be recorded.

There is no limitation to a single object — multiple objects can be armed and recorded together.

## Check the Recording List

As soon as an object is armed, its name appears inside the active recording target Parameter Layer.

<figure><img src="https://1761958297-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FDcGqBEYUYkl2mQzGbOue%2Fuploads%2FvXyfKEigtjbjUuJgEs4k%2FPowerToys_5abSLMJ6bW.gif?alt=media&amp;token=06c44931-8048-40a7-808c-5e4c22c08f43" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

This happens even before any Keyframes have been recorded.

The Parameter Layer therefore also acts as a useful overview of all objects currently prepared for the next Take.

Use this list as a final check before starting the recording.

## Disarm an Object

An object can also be removed from the recording selection directly from the Parameter Layer.

Click the red Recording indicator next to the object entry to disable recording for that object.

If the object:

* is no longer armed for recording
* and does not contain any existing recorded data or Keys in that Layer

its entry disappears automatically from the Parameter Layer.

***

## Verify the Selection

Before pressing Record, confirm that:

* the correct Parameter Layer has the red **R**
* every required object is visible in the Layer
* no unintended objects are armed
* dedicated Recording Objects are receiving the expected values

For Camera Tracking, also verify the dedicated Recording Camera as described in **Camera Tracking Recording**.
