# Before You Press Record

Run a final pre-recording check for Timeline range, Project FPS, Timecode quality, synchronization, recording targets, and armed objects before starting an important Take.

Before starting an important Take, perform a quick final check of the recording setup.

This is especially recommended for Camera Tracking and other timing-critical recordings, where an incorrect Timecode, frame rate, recording source, or armed object can make the complete Take unusable.

***

## Timeline

* The correct **Timeline** is selected.
* A **Parameter Layer** exists for the recording.
* The correct Parameter Layer is selected as the recording target using the red **R**.
* The Timeline **Start Time** and **End Time** cover the expected recording range.
* If recording in Free Run, the **Playhead** is positioned where the recording should begin.

## Project Timing

* The **Project FPS** is configured correctly.
* The Project FPS is appropriate for the expected source update rate.
* For timing-critical recordings, Grid Studio is synchronized to the required **external clock / Genlock source**.

## Timecode

If external Timecode is used:

* The correct **Global Recording Timecode Provider** is selected.
* The **Timecode Quality Graph** shows a stable interpolated signal.
* The required interpolation mode is configured.
* The **Time Inspector** shows stable timing without continuous drift.
* The Timecode Provider's **Drop Behaviour** is configured appropriately.

If the Timeline itself should also visibly follow external Timecode, verify the Timeline-specific Timecode Provider as well.

## Recording Objects

* All required objects are armed for recording.
* The expected objects are visible in the recording target Parameter Layer.
* No unintended objects are armed.

If dedicated Recording Objects are used:

* Position and Rotation follow the expected final result.
* all required additional Parameters are linked and updating
* the Recording Object does not contain unwanted additional processing

For Camera Tracking, verify the setup described in **Camera Tracking Recording**.

## During the Recording

Once the Take has started, keep Grid Studio as undisturbed as possible.

Avoid:

* changing the recording setup
* arming or disarming objects
* editing the project
* performing unrelated operations

For important recordings, it is also recommended to disable **Auto Save** before starting the Take.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Once recording is running, avoid unnecessary interaction with the project.

The goal is to keep the recording process as stable and uninterrupted as possible until **Stop Recording** is triggered.
