# Overview

Use live object tracking from Grid Studio to control positions, rotations, and sizes in TouchDesigner and react to object activity.

## Tracking Data

Tracking Data connects individual objects in Grid Studio to your TouchDesigner scene.

Use a tracked object's position to move geometry, its rotation to control orientation, and its size to scale your visual content.

For example, a Tracker in Grid Studio can drive a cube or 3D model in TouchDesigner. Multiple tracked objects can control separate graphics or provide data for instancing.

### Available tracking data

| Data | Purpose |
| ----------- | -------------------------------------------------------- |
| Position | Places the object in 3D space, in meters. |
| Rotation | Defines the object's orientation. |
| Size | Provides XYZ dimensions for scaling your geometry. |
| ID and type | Identify the tracked object. |
| Activity | Indicates when the object becomes available or inactive. |

The integration converts positions into TouchDesigner's coordinate system. The SPNet Data CHOP also prepares rotations as TouchDesigner XYZ Euler angles in degrees and provides quaternion channels.

### Choose your workflow

| Operator | Use it for |
| ---------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| SPNet Data CHOP | Access live position, rotation, and size channels to control geometry or drive instancing. |
| SPNet Events DAT | Inspect tracking objects in a live table or receive active and inactive transitions. |

#### Control one object

Select a specific object by its type and ID in the SPNet Data CHOP.

Its channels can control a Geometry COMP's translation, rotation, and scale.

This is useful when a particular tracked object should always control the same visual element.

#### Work with multiple objects

Use All Objects mode to receive one CHOP sample per tracked object.

The shared channels can drive Geometry COMP instancing, allowing the number of visual instances to follow the incoming tracking data.

#### React to activity

Use the SPNet Events DAT to trigger actions when an object becomes active or inactive.

For example, an active event can start an entrance animation, while an inactive event can trigger an exit animation or remove a graphic.

Your TouchDesigner network defines the actions performed.

### Object identity

An ID identifies an object within its type. Different object types can use the same numeric ID.

When selecting one object, choose its type and ID together. When processing DAT events, use the combined key, such as `movable:1`.

Use this identity when retaining state across updates. Sample indices and table rows can change as objects appear and disappear.

### Before you start

You need:

* The SPNet plugins installed in TouchDesigner.
* Grid Studio sending the required object's tracking data through SPNet.
* The object's type and ID.
* Matching network settings on the sender and receiver.

The first example uses a Moveable in Grid Studio to control a cube in TouchDesigner.
