License System
Grid Studio uses a flexible credit-based licensing system.
Projects can be created and tested in Grid Studio for free, while credits are required to remove data watermarks and deploy projects for live operation.
The number of credits required depends on the features, devices, protocols, and viewer connections used within a project.
Check out connection credit weights using the Grid Studio software or Online license page.
Understanding Credits
Grid Studio uses a credit-based licensing system to determine which features and components of a project can be used without data watermarks.
Projects can be created and tested in Grid Studio without a license. However, when a project is used in a live environment, credits are required to remove data watermarks and enable full functionality.
The number of required credits depends on the features, devices, and integrations used within the project.
How Credits Are Calculated
Credits are calculated automatically based on the components present in a Grid Studio project.
Different elements contribute to the total credit usage, including:
connected devices
protocols and integrations
tracking systems
viewer clients
hardware interfaces
additional modules or Grid Extensions
add-ons
Each of these components consumes a specific number of credits.
When enough credits are available, the project runs normally. If insufficient credits are present, the system will run in watermarked mode.
Watermarked Mode
If a project requires more credits than are currently available, Grid Studio will continue to run but apply data watermarks to certain outputs.
This allows projects to be tested and developed without a license while ensuring that licenses are required for live operation.
Watermarked mode is typically used during:
development
testing
prototyping
License Types
Grid Studio Credit licenses are available in different durations depending on the requirements of the project.
Available license types include:
3 Month License
Yearly License
Perpetual License
Time-based licenses can be extended at any time by:
1 month
3 months
1 year
For costs of licensing, please see our Buy Page at www.stageprecision.com
For detailed information on how to add licenses to your account, see Managing Online Licenses.
Perpetual Licenses
A Perpetual License allows the project to run indefinitely.
However, perpetual licenses include one year of updates and support. After this period, the license continues to work but no longer includes future updates or support.
Support and access to new software updates for a perpetual license can be extended by "buying back in" at a yearly rate for all credits in your project, if required.
During the 1 year "SLA Period" of a perpetual license, credits can be added at anytime.
Adding Credits
Additional credits can be added to a leased license at any time if a project requires more functionality.
Pricing for additional credits may vary depending on the remaining duration of the current license.
For detailed information on how to add credits to a license, see Managing Online Licenses.
Checking Credit Usage
The current credit usage of a project can be viewed inside Grid Studio.
The Project Credit Manager provides an overview of:
available credits
used credits
managed add-ons
This allows users to quickly determine whether a project requires additional credits before deployment.
For detailed information on managing credits and add-ons, see Project Credit Manager.
License Activation
Grid Credit licenses can be activated using either license keys or hardware dongles.
For more information on how to activate a license, see License Activation.
License activation normally requires the computer to be connected to the internet. However, an offline activation workflow is also available if the system cannot access the internet.
When using license keys, the computer must include a TPM 2.0 module.
Systems without TPM 2.0 can still run Grid Studio for development and project preparation, but a USB dongle will be required for licensed runtime deployment. Speak to our team to purchase a Dongle if you do not have one.
If a system does not provide TPM 2.0 support, deployment without watermarks is only possible using a hardware dongle.
For more detailed information about hardware requirements and supported activation methods, see Hardware Requirements for Licensing.
