License Release
Before a license can be used on another machine or transferred to a hardware dongle, it must first be released from the current system.
Releasing a license is an important step. If a license is still bound to a machine, it cannot be activated on another computer or transferred to a dongle.
License release can be performed using either online or offline methods, depending on whether the system has internet access.
Once a license has been transferred to a hardware dongle, it becomes permanently bound to that dongle. The license key can no longer be used and cannot be transferred back from the dongle.
Opening the License Manager
The License Manager can be opened directly within Grid Studio.
To access it, click the Grid logo located in the upper-right corner of the application window. This opens the License Manager, where licenses can be activated, managed, and reviewed.
Release License (Online)
To release a license when the system has an internet connection:
Locate the license in the license list.
Click Release License.
The license will then be released from the current machine and can be activated on another system or transferred to a dongle.
Release License (Offline)
If the computer does not have an internet connection, the license can be released using the offline release process.
Open the License Manager.
Locate the license and click Release License.
A file browser will appear prompting you to save a release request file.
After saving the file, the license will disappear from the local license list. However, the release process is not yet complete.
Transfer the generated file to a computer with an internet connection and open deactivate.stageprecision.com.
Upload the file by clicking Choose File or by dragging and dropping it into the upload area.
Click Release.
Once this step is completed, the license is fully released and can be activated on another system or transferred to a dongle.
Releasing a License After System Changes
If a license was not released before a computer was reimaged, reset, or reinstalled, it is still possible to release the license.
To do this, install Grid Studio again on the same machine and activate the license once more using the license key. This process requires an active internet connection.
After the license has been activated again, it can be released normally through the License Manager, allowing it to be used on another system or transferred to a dongle.
