Defaults
Overview
The Defaults tab defines how timeline blocks are created when new blocks are added to a timeline.
These settings control the initial configuration of timeline blocks, such as their color behavior, default duration, category assignment, and naming rules.
By defining these defaults, users can ensure that newly created timeline blocks follow a consistent setup without needing to manually adjust common properties each time.
Timeline Block Defaults
The settings in this section define the default properties applied when a new timeline block is created.
Default Length
Defines the default duration of newly created timeline blocks.
When a block is added to a timeline, it will initially use this length unless modified by the user.
Default Category
Defines the category that will be assigned to new timeline blocks.
Categories can be used to organize timeline elements and control their visual appearance or behavior.
Color Mode
Timeline blocks can determine their color in two different ways:
Custom Color – the block uses its own defined color
Category Color – the block automatically uses the color assigned to its category
This setting defines which mode is used by default when creating new blocks.
Default Color
Defines the default color used when a timeline block is set to use a custom color.
Block Naming Behavior
The Defaults tab also provides options to control how new timeline blocks are named when they are created.
By default, blocks are created using a simple naming pattern such as "Block".
However, this behavior can be overridden using the options that include an enable toggle.
When enabled, these options allow blocks to be automatically named based on specific information, such as the current timeline time.
For example, recording blocks can automatically generate names based on the time position at which they were created, instead of using a generic block name.
This can be useful when generating many timeline blocks during recording or automated processes, as it helps identify blocks more easily.
Purpose
The Defaults tab helps standardize how timeline blocks are created within a project.
By defining default properties and naming rules, users can maintain a consistent timeline structure and reduce repetitive setup steps when creating new blocks.
